The word "thalassotherapy" comes from the Greek ?thalassa?, meaning sea and ?therapia?, meaning healing. It is form of natural therapy encompassing three aspects: sea-water (hydrotherapy), sea air (aerotherapy) and sunlight (heliotherapy), something which can be enjoyed throughout the Region of Murcia.
The therapeutic effects of sea-water are produced in a variety of ways: via contact with the skin, via direct contact with the mucous membranes or via inhalation through the dynamic action of waves.
Saturated with micro-droplets of sea-water in suspension, sea air is rich in iodine and negative ions, which give it antibiotic properties, have a calmative effect on the nervous system and stimulate the body?s defences.
Sea water is rich in oligoelements: chloride, sodium, sulphates, magnesium, calcium, potassium? that are absorbed through the skin into the body (transmineralization).
